Ingleby Manor

Details

Ingleby Manor was built for a courtier of Henry VIII, and although it is an imposing historic house, it has always been a family home and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed.

It was featured as a "Great Escape" by Country Living magazine and four spacious, totally self-contained luxury apartments, and two cottages in the grounds, combine 21st century comforts with fascinating historic features.

There is a croquet lawn and children's play area in the "secret" walled garden, roses from the rose garden, pheasants on the lawn and wild deer in the acres of woodland, which surrounds Ingleby Manor. Brown trout in Ingleby Beck, which winds through the grounds, are a formidable challenge for the fisherman; the energetic will enjoy a walk and climb of about twenty minutes to Turkey Nab (the old name for grouse in this area was 'wild turkeys') and onto the Cleveland Way Walk. With acres of heather stretching away behind you, the vast plain of the River Tees spread out 1000 feet below and the Pennines in the distance, this has been called one of the finest views in England. Further afield enjoy wild rolling moors and sheltered peaceful valleys, the towering cliffs and secret coves of the north-east coast, picturesque villages and ruined abbeys, bustling market towns, country inns smelling of wood smoke, and a world-famous tea room with delectable pastries and the very best roast coffee.

There are several National Trust and famous private houses and gardens nearby, and Captain James Cook RN and 'James Herriot' are local heroes.

Ingleby Manor's large Tudor kitchen with 21st century Aga makes an impressive but delightfully informal setting for a get-together for larger groups and families, and there is a traditional village pub with restaurant in Ingleby village.
