Chalkley's Apartment

Chalkley's Apartment

Chalkley's apartment (Gold Award) - The living room

Details

Two delightful apartments: 'Chalkley's' and 'The Stables', in the historic setting of a 17th century building, once a farmhouse and bake-house.

The Old Bakery stands in a Conservation Area, with characterful pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops (including an excellent Deli) clustered around a 'village' Green. Despite being very much part of modern London, Winchmore Hill retains the charm of past times. The Old Bakery is just two minutes' walk from Winchmore Hill Station, where fast trains run to central London’s theatre-land, museums and galleries (25-30 minutes).

The Old Bakery is a Listed Historic Building, protected by law because of its historic significance. The original farmhouse is thought to have been built circa 1600 when it consisted of just two rooms downstairs bridged by a huge fireplace, and two rooms above. Enlarged, in the 18th and 19th centuries, it became the village bakehouse and home to the baker’s family. Chalkley’s Farmhouse Bakery was run for four generations by the Chalkley family until it closed in 1960. The Anstee family have lived here since 1978 and have restored the building to a high standard.

'Chalkley's' has two double, en-suite bedrooms and sleeps 4. It is in the most historic section of the building. 'The Stables' has one double bedroom and sleeps 2. The Stables has access to the Old Bakery’s beautiful, walled garden.

'Chalkleys' is a self- contained apartment on 2 floors in the most historic section The Old Bakery. Beautiful brick fireplaces and beamed ceilings make for an atmospheric and cosy holiday home, which also benefits from elegant contemporary bathrooms and kitchen. 'Chalkleys' consists of: a comfortably-furnished living room; a dining room with large brick fireplace and beautiful exposed 17th century brick wall; a modern well-equipped kitchen; two generous-sized double bedrooms, each with en-suite facilities. Bedroom 1 has a king-size double bed and en-suite shower room/toilet. Bedroom 2 has two single 2'6' beds which can, if preferred, be combined to make zip-linked king-sized beds. This bedroom’s en-suite bathroom has a bath with over-bath hand-held shower. Bed-linen (400-thread Egyptian cotton) and towels are provided and laundered for you. Chalkley’s is named after the family who ran the Bakery for four generations.

'The Stables', a romantic hideaway for two, is situated in the secluded walled garden of The Old Bakery, with its own direct access to the street. Stylishly furnished and equipped, it makes an ideal holiday venue for a couple or a single visitor. The Stables comprises a beamed living room with dining area, kitchen, shower room and double bedroom. There is an outdoor seating area where guests enjoy evening drinks in the summer. Bed-linen (400-thread Egyptian cotton) and towels are provided and laundered for you. Please note that the Stables’ Eaves bedroom is accessed by a ladder-style staircase which may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.
